It was just a great day to be on the course today at Riverbend. The
temperature was just right with a light breeze and blue skys with
puffy white clouds. The Match Play event was attended by 16 players
(8 teams of 2) and we played a single elimination tournament (9 hole
matches). Sam Snead once said, “I loved match play. I would study a
guy I was playing, just like Ted Williams studied pitchers. I’d look
for a weak spot.” Darrell and Michelle Linger won the event by using
their strengths and abilities rather than others weak spots to win 3
matches and the Match Play Championship for 2013. Here are the results
of each match:

First Round:

Jeff and Lynelle Zickefoose defeated Ron and Sandy Shingleton
Mike and Natalie Hinkle defeated Bob and Ellnora Withers
Darrell and Michelle Linger defeated Bob and Betty Heavner
Charlie Straley and Gene Bryant defeated Beryl McKisic and Clay Persinger

Second Round:

Darrell and Michelle Linger defeated Charlie Straley and Gene Bryant
Mike and Natalie Hinkle defeated Jeff and Lynelle Zickefoose

Championship Round:

Darrell and Michelle Linger defeated Mike and Natalie Hinkle

Congrats to Darrell and Michelle. We are so glad they are a part of the CGA.

We have 2 outings remaining in July:

Thursday July 25 at Riverbend at 5pm
Sunday July 28 at Stonewall Resort at 2pm (Deadline to enter is next
Saturday July 20 at 9pm). We have 18 players entered as of today.

The August outings include:

August 8 and 22 at Riverbend at 5pm.
August 13 at Bridgeport CC at Noon (Deadline to enter is Monday August 5 at 9pm)
August 19 at Buckhannon CC at 5pm (Deadline to enter is August 13 at 9pm)
August 25 at Stonewall Resort at 2pm (Deadline to enter is August 17 at 9pm)

The deadline to enter the Greenbrier outing on Labor Day Monday is
Thursday July 25 at 9pm. We now have 48 players who have paid their
deposit of $40 or more for this outing. If you are still interested
you have 12 days to still get in. Please be aware once I set the final
number for this outing you may not be able to get in at that point.
