golf. “I like golf because I can go out and hit a little white ball
that doesn’t move and doesn’t hit back. It should be easy, but it
isn’t.” He is so very right. Here are the scores from last evenings

The Match Play tournament is tomorrow (Saturday July 13) at Riverbend.
We will begin registration at 8am, have devotions and prayer at
8:30am, draw for pairings at 8:45am and begin play at 9am. There will
be coffee and doughnuts for those interested.

The cost is nothing for members of Riverbend and will be between $20
and $28 for nonmembers. We will have 2 divisions (Men and Couples).
The men’s division will be random draw for partners. The format is 2
person scramble/Match Play (number of holes won).

The tournament will take at least 4 hours with the possibility of more
depending on the number of participants. Hope you can be with us.

The next Stonewall outing is Sunday July 28 at 2pm. The deadline to
enter is Saturday July 20 at 9pm.

The Greenbrier outing is Labor Day Monday September 2 at 11am. The
deadline to enter is Thursday July 25 at 9pm.

We have 2 other outings currently open for signups:

Tuesday August 13 at Bridgeport CC at Noon. Deadline to enter is
Monday August 5 at 9pm.
Monday August 19 at Buckhannon CC at 5pm. Deadline to enter is Tuesday
August 13 at 9pm.

As we finish June we approach the halfway point for the 2013 CGA golf
season. I invite all of you to join us Thursday July 11 at Riverbend
for the CGA Par 3 Challenge. All 9 holes will be par 3 with a $25 gift
card to the closest to the pin on each hole. If anyone gets a hole in
one they win all 9 gift cards ($225 value). We will begin registration
at 5pm with devotions at 5:30. We will draw for teams and start play
by 6pm. The cost is $5 for members of Riverbend and $15 for nonmembers
of Riverbend.

Natalie Hinkle won the drawing for the $50 gift certificate to the
American Mountain Theater.

played this evening)
Sunday July 28 at Stonewall at 2pm (Deadline to enter is Saturday July
20 at 9pm) Sponsor is Harry Grose. We will give away a golf ball
storage unit made by Harry prior to play on this day.

We have been blessed to have played every outing so far this year. We
have dodged a few raindrops lately but we have been able to complete
all so far. The Reverend John Durkin when asked if he was responsible
for the perfect weather at a golf tournament said this, “No, that’s
management. I’m in sales.”

When asked what he does better now than he did 20 years ago, pro golfer Larry Ziegler said, “Probably sleep”. I am sure several of you probably slept well last night after a long day at the golf course. Thanks again for your participation. I sent a check out today to the Alzheimer’s Association for $250 in the name of the CGA of Northcentral WV. The outing at Stonewall for next Saturday is now full. We have all 32 slots taken as of 6pm today. If anyone’s plans change please let me know by Tuesday afternoon. I will be out of town Wednesday through Saturday. I will be coming back from the Woods Resort on Friday evening and then going to Stonewall on Saturday. Please be at Stonewall by 2pm next Saturday.

The outing at the Greenbrier Resort has 40 players so far. The July 1st deadline has been extended until Thursday July 25. This will be the last chance to enter this event. To enter you must pay a $40 deposit to the CGA. The entire $80 is due by Thursday August 22. Please plan to be at the Greenbrier on Labor Day by 11am.

the way it was. It turned out to be a very nice comfortable evening to
play golf. Thanks to God for his blessings of all kinds of weather. We

This day is also West Virginia’s 150th birthday so plan to wear your
WV gear this night in honor of this occasion.

Also, plan to participate on Friday June 21 in our Summer Soltice
event at Riverbend. Come play 9, 18 or all day if you wish.

Just a perfect day to be out on the golf course enjoying God’s
creation. We had 28 participants in the first of five Stonewall
Resort outings for 2013. The $50 gift certificate to the American
Mountain Theater went to Lynelle Zickefoose. We will give another away
at the Saturday June 29th Stonewall outing. The next Stonewall outing
is currently open for signups. Today we had 20 signup for the 32
spots. The deadline to enter is Friday June 21. For us to get more
than 32 spots we must fill these by Friday June 14 at 9pm. Here is

The next outing for the CGA is next Monday May 20 at Buckhannon CC at
5pm. Ron and Melissa Lamb are sponsoring this outing. The deadline to
enter is Thursday at 9pm. This outing is random draw for teams. We
currently have 20 players entered. The cost is $20 per person ($5 for
members of Buckhannon CC).

The first outing at Stonewall this year is Sunday May 26 at 2pm. The
deadline to enter is this Saturday May 18 at 9pm. This outing is bring
your own foursome. We currently have 21 entered. The sponsor is the
Heaston UM Church. We will be giving away a $50 gift certificate to
the American Mountain Theater to one random player following play. The
cost is $47 per player.

Our next outing at Riverbend is Thursday May 23 at 5pm. The sponsor is
Mountain State Pest Guard (Clay Persinger). Also, speaking of Clay he
is having a Relay for Life Golf Tournament on Sunday June 2 at
Riverbend. The cost is $45 per person which includes lunch. Myself,
Ron Lamb, Jeff Zickefoose and Phil Austin plan to have a team. If you
are interested in playing please contact Clay.

or check to the CGA. They have a dress code including no jeans,
softspikes, and a collar on shirts. We have 22 scheduled to play.
There is room for 2 players if anyone is interested.

The Monday May 20 outing at Buckhannon CC deadline has been extended
until Thursday May 16 if you are interested. We currently have 15
signed up.

The initial Stonewall Resort outing is Sunday May 26 at 2pm. The
deadline is Saturday May 18 at 9pm. We currently have 12 scheduled to
play. We need players for this outing. I have 40 spots reserved. If we
fall short of this it will effect the number of players for the other
4 outings at Stonewall.

It was great to see Bob Mills at tonight’s outing and also great to
see Jerry Abel back with us. If you have not been out with the CGA
this year yet I hope you will soon.
